LG Joins Forces with NVIDIA to Build AI-Powered Robots and Self-Driving Car Hardware

ByAyshathul Mushrifa

LG Corp. and NVIDIA have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand collaboration across artificial intelligence, robotics, autonomous vehicles, and AI infrastructure.

LG Chairman and CEO Kwang Mo Koo visited NVIDIA headquarters in Santa Clara, California, to sign the agreement with NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang.

As part of the collaboration, LG plans to unveil a humanoid robot in the first quarter of 2027 powered by NVIDIA’s Jetson Thor onboard computing platform and the Isaac GR00T humanoid foundation model.

LG is also preparing to deploy its wheeled CLOiD robot at its washing machine manufacturing facility in Tennessee later this year. The production line will serve as a testing environment to improve the robot’s capabilities before potential expansion to global manufacturing facilities.

Beyond robotics, LG plans to establish AI infrastructure based on NVIDIA technologies. The company will develop a reference AI data center using NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin platform in the first half of 2027, followed by an LG AI Factory in Cheonan, South Korea, targeted for the first half of 2028 with 80 MW of computing capacity.

The AI Factory will support LG’s development of AI models for robots while combining technologies from LG Electronics, LG Energy Solution, and LG Innotek.

LG is also developing AI-Defined Vehicle platforms based on NVIDIA Drive Hyperion technology and plans to integrate autonomous driving capabilities with its in-vehicle infotainment systems for global automotive manufacturers.

Kwang Mo Koo, Chairman and CEO of LG Corp., stated:

"As our discussions have moved fast, our tasks and goals in AI Factory and Physical AI have become clear. We will accelerate the spread of AI by building industry-leading references."

Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA, stated:

"The defining opportunity of physical AI is to give every machine the ability to understand the real world, reason and act safely alongside people — reshaping everyday life from the home and factory floor to the road."
