Amazon Expands Robotics Network with New Automated Sorting Warehouse in Texas

ByAyshathul Mushrifa

Amazon is expanding its automated fulfillment infrastructure with plans to build a new robotics-equipped sorting warehouse in Georgetown, Texas, as the company continues scaling automation across its global supply chain network.

The planned 248,687-square-foot facility will become part of Amazon's fulfillment network and will use robotic systems designed to bring items directly to employees for order processing before packaging and shipment. The project represents another step in Amazon's long-term strategy to improve warehouse efficiency through advanced robotics.

Austin Stowe, Amazon Spokesperson, stated:

"Our team is in the early stages of bringing a new operations facility to Georgetown — one that would provide local customers with faster delivery of everyday essentials while creating new jobs in the community."

The new sorting warehouse will include multiple storage areas, specialty and cold goods sections, and operational support spaces. Robotic systems deployed at the facility will assist employees by reducing manual handling requirements and optimizing item movement throughout the fulfillment process.

Amazon highlighted the broader role of robotics in supply chain operations:

The company has continued expanding its robotics portfolio across fulfillment centers, introducing systems such as autonomous package handling robots like 'Tipper' and automated sorting technologies. Amazon previously announced robotics-focused facilities, including a large-scale fulfillment center in North Carolina designed around advanced automation.

Construction of the Georgetown facility is expected to break ground on August 30, 2026, with completion targeted for July 2027. The $48 million project will strengthen Amazon's regional delivery capabilities while supporting the company's broader transition toward highly automated logistics operations.
