Sanctuary AI Deploys Physical AI Brain Stack Beyond Humanoids

Sanctuary AI is extending its Physical AI technology beyond complete humanoid robots, offering its intelligence and dexterous manipulation stack for existing industrial hardware. The strategy enables manufacturers to automate difficult tasks without waiting for humanoid platforms to reach large-scale commercialization.
The Vancouver-based company recently demonstrated its system on a wire-plugging application for a global Tier 1 automotive supplier. Using robotic hands, the system inserted flexible wired plugs into moving targets on a live conveyor, achieving a success rate above 99.5% and a 2.54-second cycle time.
The task had resisted conventional automation because flexible wires deform unpredictably and require precise alignment with moving components. Sanctuary AI's technology combines perception, reasoning, and fine manipulation to perform the operation consistently.
Rather than requiring its full Phoenix humanoid robot, Sanctuary deployed the Physical AI stack with isolated robotic hands. This hardware-agnostic model allows the company to integrate its intelligence into equipment already installed in factories and other industrial facilities.
CEO Daniel Friedmann explained that the expanded approach can accelerate adoption while addressing immediate labor shortages. It also creates a practical pathway toward more capable intelligent machines, including future industrial humanoids.
The demonstrated system remains a proof of concept, but Sanctuary AI says its technology can be deployed on compatible hardware within weeks. The platform targets dexterity-intensive processes that traditional industrial robots cannot reliably automate.
Potential applications extend beyond automotive manufacturing to electronics, logistics, and data-center operations. Meta is reportedly examining related robotic systems for tasks inside data centers, highlighting broader demand for adaptable manipulation technology.
By separating its Physical AI software and manipulation capabilities from a specific robot body, Sanctuary AI is prioritizing production performance over form. The approach could generate near-term deployments while providing operational data needed to improve future generations of Phoenix and other intelligent robotic systems.
