Origin Raises $20 Million to Scale OG-1 Construction Robots for Interior Finishing Trades

ByMohammed Thaif

Origin, a physical AI company building general-purpose robots for interior construction, has emerged from stealth with $20 million in total funding co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures.

Additional investors include Unilazer Ventures, Schema Ventures, and Z21, along with strategic angel backers from Anduril, Skild AI, 1X, and Tesla. Capital will primarily expand deployments of the OG-1 platform and support commercial customer pilots across the United States, Germany, Sweden, France, and Saudi Arabia.

The OG-1 robot autonomously completes labor-intensive wall-finishing workflows, applying compound, sanding, and priming walls to professional standards. Built on a three-wheeled base for rough construction environments, the mobile platform operates at heights up to 14 feet while utilizing real-time force feedback control.

Yogesh Ghaturle, Co-founder and CEO of Origin, stated:

"Every customer we work with has more demand and project backlogs than their teams can deliver. They're leaving revenue on the table because they don't have enough skilled people, and demand is only growing. Wall finishing and painting are only our starting trades; our ambition is to automate the full range of interior trades so contractors can build faster with consistent quality."

The hardware runs on Origin's Construction Action Model, a foundational physical AI architecture integrating automated reasoning, spatial action policies, and feedback controllers. Trained on high-fidelity simulation and job-site data, the system adapts dynamically to changing site conditions.

Vivin Hegde, Founding Partner at Zacua Ventures, stated:

"Too many construction robots perform well in a lab and fail within a week on a live job site. Origin built for the job site from the start, and it shows in the results: the robot works, crews trust it and the company can manufacture it at volume."

Origin aims to deploy 150 OG-1 robots by the end of 2027, while expanding capabilities into taping, drywall installation, drilling, and electrical conduit setup using the modular platform.
