FedEx Expands Deployment of Dexterity Physical AI for Autonomous Trailer Loading Operations

ByAyshathul Mushrifa

FedEx and Dexterity have announced an expanded collaboration to scale autonomous trailer loading operations using Dexterity’s physical AI platform at the FedEx Hagerstown Hub in Maryland.

Building on years of joint development and testing, this deployment expands the program beyond the original pilot site into production scale to improve safety, consistency, and operational performance.

Trailer loading remains one of the most physically demanding workflows in parcel logistics, requiring continuous physical strength, endurance, and real-time spatial problem-solving under tight operational deadlines across high-volume transport networks.

Through this strategic collaboration, FedEx is establishing how physical AI performs in active trailer loading while integrating the system into broader hub processes including destination planning and maintenance.

Kawal Preet, executive vice president, planning, engineering, and transformation at FedEx, stated:

"FedEx has a long history of using technology to make our network safer, smarter, and more resilient. This expanded collaboration with Dexterity reflects our commitment to advancing capabilities that improve how we operate today while helping prepare our network for the future. As we continue evaluating and deploying physical AI in real-world environments, we see opportunities to enhance the speed, reliability, and flexibility of our network, creating long-term value for our business and customers."

Dexterity’s solution is driven by Foresight, a physical AI world model combining vision, depth, and touch to predict package placement in three spatial dimensions and time for speed and stability.

Foresight powers Mech, Dexterity's dual-armed superhumanoid robot built for heavy industrial tasks while remaining compact enough to operate safely inside standard freight trailers.

Samir Menon, PhD, founder and CEO of Dexterity, stated:

"FedEx has been an extraordinary partner, bringing deep operational expertise, an unwavering focus on safety, and a clear vision for how physical AI fits into the future of logistics. Hagerstown represents an important milestone in demonstrating how physical AI can operate reliably in a high-volume logistics environment, creating a blueprint for network expansion. This technology is not just a future promise; it can perceive, decide, and act in the real world today."
