AMD Unveils Kria AI Robotics Platform for Real-Time Robot Control

AMD has unveiled its new Kria AI Robotics platform and Ryzen AI Embedded X100 Series processors, expanding its portfolio for real-time control and physical AI workloads in robotics.
The new hardware architecture is built around a unified CPU–GPU–NPU memory structure designed to eliminate unnecessary data copies while reducing latency across perception, sensor fusion, and AI inference tasks.
AMD claims the X100 delivers deterministic real-time control with interrupt latency targets under 7 μs, positioning the system against NVIDIA's Orin and Thor computing architectures.
The company is also introducing the Kria AI System-on-Module (SoM), Robotics Development Kit, and the open-source AMD Robotics Sophie Suite stack. The SoM adopts the COM-HPC open standard to prevent vendor lock-in.
Rob Bauer, senior manager of product management and marketing for the x86 Embedded APU portfolio at AMD, stated:
"In that market [aerospace and defense market, with a focus on signal-processing workloads], we're actually delivering three times the FP32 compute performance relative to NVIDIA Thor. They're pretty highly optimized around inferencing in that architecture, right? We're still delivering floating-point signal processing performance here with the X100 series, so that allows us to do some pretty amazing things."
KV Thanjuvar Bhaaskar, robotics lead and senior manager at AMD, stated:
"What makes this [Kria] SoM differentiated is tying it back to the feedback [from customers]. They want open, non-vendor-lock-in. So what we did is adopt an open standard. Here, the standard we adopted is COM HPC. AMD can build it, and any other company on the planet can adopt it and build it. So we don't want to have a proprietary form factor."
Early platform customers include Castec International, with its semiconductor fab AMR, and humanoid robot developer Foundation Robotics, which is migrating to AMD X100 and future FPGA-based hand control systems.
AMD is also establishing a robotics partner network featuring sensor providers, software developers, and system integrators, including Open Robotics, Open Navigation, and OpenCV.
