Samsung SDS to Launch Factory-Wide Robot Orchestration Platform by 2027

Samsung SDS has announced plans to unveil a factory-wide robot orchestration platform in 2027, designed to manage mixed fleets of industrial robots across more than 1,000 production lines at Samsung affiliates.

Company leaders introduced this initiative at REAL Summit 2026 in Seoul on September 8, framing robotics transformation, or RX, as the next step in extending AI capabilities from office workflows into physical factory environments.

Rather than focusing on a single robot hardware design, the platform will connect production equipment and robots from different vendors, handling task sequencing and real-time movement path management while actively avoiding collisions during assembly and transport.

Crucially, if one robot were to break down, the software is engineered to detect the failure immediately and reroute work to other machines, preventing an entire production line from halting operations.

Lee Jun-hee, CEO of Samsung SDS, stated:

"AI transformation is a much more fundamental change than simply adopting AI to save time and costs. AI changes how work is done, but AI transformation changes the business itself. While interest in RX has been growing recently, RX cannot be achieved with robots alone."

To support this ecosystem, the company formed Team REX (Robotics Excellence), a partner network of 10 global physical AI firms including Rainbow Robotics, Walden Robotics, Arobot, and Endlite.

Samsung SDS has already tested general-purpose robots for manual tasks at Samsung Electro-Mechanics, deployed RoboForce systems for rugged outdoor work at Samsung Heavy Industries, and integrated dexterous manipulation technology at Samsung Display.

Once validated internally, the enterprise plans to offer the platform to roughly 430 external manufacturing clients across semiconductors, batteries, biotech, automotive, and food production sectors, with eventual entry into the U.S. market.
