Regal Rexnord Launches Linear Axis for FANUC CRX Cobots

ByAyshathul Mushrifa

Regal Rexnord has formed a strategic collaboration with industrial automation leader FANUC to deliver a fully integrated collaborative robotics solution combining expertise across several core component brands.

The co-developed solution leverages Thomson linear motion technology alongside Boston Gear gearheads, Huco couplings, and Kollmorgen motors and software. This enables FANUC CRX users to seamlessly deploy the Thomson Movotrak Cobot Transfer Unit (CTU) as an out-of-the-box external axis solution.

Following rigorous compatibility testing with the FANUC CRX Series of collaborative robots, the Movotrak CTU was added directly to the FANUC Cobot Device network through a dedicated plug-in interface.

Certified integrators can now access Thomson configuration tools on their teach pendant, simplifying setup, extending cobot reach up to 10 meters, and deploying collision detection programming to accelerate complex installation workflows.

Emily Kern, President of Regal Rexnord's Linear Motion Division, stated:

"Adding an external axis transport layer to a 6-axis cobot opens new avenues for productivity, innovation and profitability for our customers. We've worked closely with Fanuc to deliver this capability for their CRX cobot line, and it is now ready for deployment. The Thomson Movotrak CTU brings together robotic innovations from across Regal Rexnord, including Thomson linear systems, Boston Gear gearheads, Huco couplings, and Kollmorgen motors and software, allowing integrators to configure a fully integrated system directly within the Fanuc engineering environment."

By combining motion control, gearing, couplings, motors, and software into a unified engineered assembly, Regal Rexnord simplifies adoption while improving overall system reliability and speed to deployment for manufacturers.

Kevin Long, EVP and President of Regal Rexnord's Automation and Motion Control Segment, stated:

"Fanuc is a highly regarded leader in industrial robotic technology, ranging from compact systems to capable of handling the most demanding industrial payloads. We're proud that the Thomson CTU is now approved for integration with their cobot platform, helping advance the next generation of human-robot collaboration and intelligent motion systems."

Featuring an external axis Freedrive mode and flexible floor, wall, or ceiling mounting options, the Thomson Movotrak CTU fully supports heavy-duty cobot models up to the FANUC CRX30iA for demanding applications.
