KUKA Unveils KR TITAN ultra for Heavy-Payload Robot Automation

ByMedia Relations

KUKA has officially expanded its heavy-duty robotics portfolio with the launch of the KR TITAN ultra, a next-generation industrial robot developed to set new performance benchmarks in large-scale and high-load automation.

KUKA, a global specialist in intelligent automation solutions, introduced the KR TITAN ultra to support demanding industrial environments such as automotive manufacturing, battery production, large-component handling, and heavy logistics. The system combines exceptional payload capability with extended reach and precise motion control, enabling reliable automation of oversized and high-mass components.

According to Maximilian Pettkuhn, Product Manager at KUKA,

“With the KR TITAN ultra, we are setting a new standard in the heavy-duty segment. The combination of payload, reach, and modular structure opens up completely new automation possibilities for our customers.”

The KR TITAN ultra was engineered to handle extreme industrial loads, offering a maximum payload of up to 1,500 kg and a reach of up to 4,200 mm when operating with a 1,000 kg payload. This capability enables safe and efficient manipulation of large battery packs, car body modules, tooling systems, and other heavy assemblies typically found in advanced production lines.

After launching the 1,500 kg payload, 3,200 mm reach flagship model, two new variants are now available, offering 1,000 kg payload with 4,200 mm and 3,700 mm reach, giving integrators flexible range and performance options for diverse application needs.

The robot’s modular design concept supports simplified system planning, faster commissioning, and efficient service processes throughout the entire equipment life cycle. This flexible architecture also enables manufacturers to adapt the robot platform to evolving production needs without complex mechanical redesign.

KUKA emphasized the KR TITAN ultra’s double-link arm design, delivering low inertia and highly stable kinematics. The structure enables excellent repeatability and smooth motion, even near maximum payloads—crucial for applications demanding stability, fast cycle times, and precise positioning.

In addition to performance advantages, the system was developed with a strong focus on long-term operating efficiency. Energy-efficient components, reduced maintenance requirements, and robust mechanical construction contribute to a lower total cost of ownership (TCO) across the full operational life of the robot.

Shortly after its market introduction, the KR TITAN ultra was delivered for integration through PIA Automation for an automotive customer, demonstrating early market demand for large-scale robotic automation solutions in vehicle and battery manufacturing.

KUKA stated that the KR TITAN ultra represents a strategic milestone in strengthening its heavy-duty automation portfolio and reinforces its ambition to deliver the strongest industrial robot in its product range. The development and production of the new robot platform further emphasize the company’s manufacturing and engineering presence in Augsburg.

Through its operations at KUKA Deutschland GmbH, the company continues to invest in scalable, safe, and high-performance automation technologies, positioning the KR TITAN ultra as a future-ready solution for large-component production environments in automotive, battery systems, and heavy industrial logistics.
