Intuitive Expands APAC Manufacturing with New Facility in Penang, Malaysia

Intuitive (NASDAQ: ISRG) has entered into a lease agreement with Penang Development Corporation for a new manufacturing facility at Bandar Cassia Technology Park in Penang, Malaysia, expanding its production footprint in Asia Pacific.
The 316,000-square-foot facility is expected to begin operations in 2028 and create 1,200 highly skilled jobs by 2032. It will manufacture surgical instruments and electromechanical devices used with Intuitive's da Vinci surgical system.
Glenn Vavoso, Senior Vice President and President of Asia Pacific at Intuitive, stated:
“Asia Pacific represents one of the most exciting growth opportunities for robotic-assisted surgery. This investment demonstrates our long-term commitment to the region, and further strengthens our ability to deliver the innovation, quality, and reliability our customers expect.”
Intuitive said the facility will support growing demand for robotic-assisted surgery across Asia Pacific. The company has operated in the region for more than two decades, and its da Vinci systems have enabled surgeons to treat more than 2.5 million patients across 13 markets.
Mark Brosius, Executive Vice President and Chief Manufacturing and Supply Chain Officer at Intuitive, stated:
“This new facility will become an integral part of our global manufacturing operations, helping us consistently deliver the high-quality, innovative products our customers and patients depend on.”
The investment also supports Penang's efforts to attract advanced manufacturing and MedTech projects. State officials said the project reflects confidence in Penang's industrial ecosystem, skilled workforce, and manufacturing capabilities.
Intuitive is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, and develops technologies for minimally invasive care, including the da Vinci surgical system and Ion endoluminal system.
The new Penang site will add manufacturing capacity closer to Asia Pacific customers while supporting Intuitive's broader global production network.
