Generative Bionics Unveils Gene.01 Humanoid Robot With Full-Body Tactile Sensing

Generative Bionics has unveiled its new Gene.01 humanoid robot, an industrial-focused platform combining full-body tactile sensing with physical AI capabilities at AMD Advancing AI 2026. The deep tech company confirmed the robot was built in six months to advance human-robot collaboration through adaptive tactile perception.

Headquartered in Genoa, Italy, Generative Bionics integrates mechanics, sensing, and physical AI into a single platform. Gene.01 features a distributed tactile skin across its entire body capable of detecting touch, temperature, proximity, and force, allowing the machine to safely anticipate human presence and adjust interactions in real time.

Daniele Pucci, CEO of Generative Bionics, stated:

"Unlike other one-size-fits-all humanoids, Gene.01 is a scalable platform, customized at the edge of AI, design, and end-effector level to maximize each customer's needs. It is also the first expression of our belief that physical AI must be human-aware, physics-native, and industrial from Day 1."

The platform treats hardware and control as one system, using models of the robot and human worker to optimize ergonomics and stability. Force sensing allows human operators to teach complex tasks through physical demonstration, resolving manipulation challenges that traditional video-only learning models cannot overcome.

Generative Bionics is adapting Gene.01 for its first industrial deployment through a strategic collaboration with global shipbuilder Fincantieri, targeting shipyard welding tasks. Additionally, the company has open-sourced Gene.01's digital twin across PyPI, conda-forge, and ROS build channels to accelerate physical AI application development.

To build a sovereign European physical AI ecosystem, Generative Bionics is partnering with German actuator specialist Synapticon on an EU-protected actuation stack. This strategic initiative covers integrated motor assembly, regional calibration, and safety testing for the humanoid product line.

Spun out from the Italian Institute of Technology in 2024 following two decades of robotics research, Generative Bionics raised €70 million in funding in late 2025 to scale physical AI model training and construct its initial production plant.
