DeepSeek Invests $20.8 Million in Unitree Robotics Shanghai IPO

DeepSeek has invested 140.8 million yuan ($20.8 million) in Unitree Robotics through its Shanghai initial public offering, forming a strategic partnership focused on developing artificial intelligence models for humanoid robots.
According to a stock exchange filing, DeepSeek received 933,399 Unitree shares, representing 2.31% of the shares allocated through the IPO's strategic placement.
Both companies, based in Hangzhou, China, will combine DeepSeek's expertise in AI models with Unitree's capabilities in mechanical engineering, motion control, and embodied intelligence. Under the agreement, Unitree (also known as Yushu Technology) will give preference to DeepSeek for model-training services and technical solutions, while DeepSeek will favor Unitree when procuring robots or exploring embodied-AI applications.
The collaboration targets a critical challenge in humanoid robotics: constructing an effective robot "brain" capable of understanding unfamiliar environments and translating commands into physical actions.
While Chinese manufacturers have created low-cost robots capable of walking and choreographed routines, training models for useful autonomous tasks requires scarce real-world data, such as demonstrations of manipulating objects.
DeepSeek has earned recognition for its cost-effective models in coding, mathematics, and reasoning, but its strength has primarily been in language models rather than integrated multimodal systems. Although DeepSeek has released vision-language research models such as VL2, they remain unintegrated with its flagship commercial model.
The partnership with Unitree provides DeepSeek with robotic platforms and physical-world data to accelerate its embodied intelligence research.
