Boston Dynamics Announces $100 Million U.S. Robotics Expansion

ByAyshathul Mushrifa

Boston Dynamics has officially unveiled plans to invest $100 million into transforming a massive facility located in Waltham, Massachusetts, establishing a cutting-edge advanced robotics and artificial intelligence center.

This expansive 323,000-square-foot facility will dramatically scale the developer's manufacturing, operational engineering, and technical workforce training programs.

The project is designed to seamlessly support the company's entire commercial product portfolio, focusing directly on driving forward deployment and development for its three hallmark automation platforms: the agile Spot quadruped, the Stretch warehouse logistics box-mover, and the sophisticated next-generation humanoid Atlas.

To jumpstart this massive facility upgrade, the company secured a $25 million Economic Development Incentive Program award directly from state authorities to assist in structural renovations and custom facility buildouts.

According to official company project disclosures:

"The advanced facility is located at 1601 Trapelo Road within Reservoir Place, situated roughly twelve miles outside of Boston. This new setup will help consolidate complex operations that are currently spread across three independent nearby sites into a centralized hub."

Engineering teams plan to begin occupying the massive new facility in structured operational phases starting in mid-2027.

Real estate partner BXP, which has owned the commercial footprint since late 1998, is actively collaborating with the robotics pioneer to construct the technical workspaces.

This strategic expansion is expected to result in the creation of 1,250 new jobs locally over the next decade as global automated hardware demands climb.

Ultimately, this massive hub positions the firm to satisfy rising enterprise requirements for high-performance mobile automation across logistics pipelines and industrial factory floors.
