ANYbotics Begins ANYmal X Deliveries for Hazardous Industrial Inspections

ByMohammed Thaif

ANYbotics has started customer deliveries of ANYmal X, its legged inspection robot designed for explosive atmospheres. Announced on October 27, 2026, the launch targets autonomous inspection in oil, gas and chemical facilities, with customers including Equinor and DSM-Firmenich.

The Zurich-based company describes ANYmal X as the world's first legged inspection robot for explosive environments. The system combines autonomous navigation, industrial AI and maintenance software integration to support routine inspection rounds in hazardous areas.

Since 2023, companies including BP, Equinor, Shell, PETRONAS, Petrobras, BASF and SLB have tested the robot through an Early Access Program. Feedback from hundreds of onshore and offshore missions helped refine the system before customer deliveries.

Péter Fankhauser, Co-Founder and CEO of ANYbotics, stated: "Four years of pioneering engineering with more than ten patents went into ANYmal X."

ANYmal X navigates stairs and narrow walkways without requiring facility modifications. Thermal, visual, acoustic and gas sensors identify conditions including overheating, leaks and abnormal noise, while inspection readings are linked to individual assets for maintenance analysis.

Designed to meet ATEX and IECEx requirements, the robot incorporates nitrogen-filled sealed chambers, flameproof actuator and battery casings, conductive feet and temperature monitoring. Onboard software checks its condition before, during and after missions.

The robot operates through Shift, ANYbotics' industrial inspection platform. Teams can schedule missions, review findings and connect inspection data with existing plant systems, including SAP, Yokogawa and SLB, supporting maintenance workflows and asset health tracking.

ANYbotics stated ANYmal X and its industrial AI stack will be presented publicly for the first time at ADIPEC 2026 alongside SLB and Kuwait Oil Company.
