Amazon Commits $100 Million to New Indiana Robotics Manufacturing Facility

Amazon announced plans on Thursday to invest more than $100 million in a new robotics manufacturing facility in Greenwood, Indiana, bringing the total number of its robot-making plants across the nation to four.

The 585,000-square-foot facility will supply parts for Amazon's North American fulfillment and robotics operations. The company expects the site to open by 2028 and create 300 manufacturing and engineering jobs with average salaries of nearly $100,000 annually.

The plant will house advanced fabrication, robotic welding, automated powder coating, and assembly operations supported by cloud and AI-powered manufacturing systems. Key roles will include CNC operators, welders, powder coating technicians, assemblers, manufacturing engineers, quality assurance specialists, controls engineers, and program managers.

The Indiana announcement follows a similar move last month in Austin, Texas. Together, the two new facilities will double Amazon's overall robot-making capacity. The company's two existing robotics plants are located in Massachusetts, where original acquisition Kiva Systems was based.

Amazon confirmed it has manufactured over one million robots in the U.S. to date. These systems operate across more than 300 facilities and assist with 75% of customer orders delivered worldwide.

Holly Sullivan, Amazon's Vice President of Worldwide Economic Development, stated:

"We've deployed over a million robots over the last decade, and in that time, we've hired hundreds of thousands of employees that work alongside those robots."

Amazon selected Greenwood due to Indiana's strong manufacturing talent base, favorable logistics infrastructure, existing corporate footprint, and available tax abatements. Since 2008, Amazon has invested over $40 billion in Indiana, generating upward of 27,000 direct jobs across the state.
