ABB Robotics and PSYONIC Partner to Advance AI-Powered Robotic Dexterity

ByAyshathul Mushrifa

ABB Robotics has signed a strategic partnership with California-based bionics innovator PSYONIC to develop next-generation intelligent robotic systems capable of performing delicate and complex manipulation tasks. The collaboration targets the joint deployment of human-inspired data pipelines to train automated arms for modern industrial challenges.

As a global robotics leader, ABB Robotics achieved a major operational milestone by integrating real-world sensory insights directly into its adaptive automation ecosystem. This technical milestone expands the manufacturer's physical AI portfolio to address highly variable workspace configurations that have historically challenged traditional automated machinery.

Marc Segura, President of ABB Robotics, stated:

“The activity at our development facility is part of our ongoing Autonomous Versatile Robotics program to mature AI-powered handling systems and demonstrate readiness for industrial manipulation. The GoFa collaborative platform is absolutely critical to proving the maturity of these bionic technologies.”

The technical deep dive into the platform highlights the integration of ABB's GoFa system with PSYONIC's specialized Ability Hand multirotor layout and payload sensors. This physical airframe arrangement relies on embedded touch sensing, pressure detection, and compliant mechanics to capture detailed datasets on grip force, interaction metrics, and structural movement patterns directly at the edge.

A corporate enterprise spokesperson analyzed the broader macro implications of the deployment:

“This partnership marks a powerful step forward for the industrial ecosystem. By bringing together PSYONIC's agility and rapid innovation with ABB’s scale, industrial depth, and global reach, together we’re creating the conditions for new technologies to move from concept to capability far faster. I am proud that this collaboration highlights flexible automation as a true sovereign capability.”

Looking ahead, the forward-looking production roadmap focuses on scaling Block 2 and Block 3 updates across the open architecture to optimize fragile object handling. Future product rollouts will accelerate software scaling, refine deep learning pipelines, and expand international export channels to bring advanced physical AI capabilities into automotive, logistics, and aerospace production lines globally.
